one of the most important things i learnt from running around as a freelance journalist is the art of treating people you don't like. one of the strategies that always works would be over-apologizing. talking to nokia for example, you'd be amazed at how per-rectal PR can be. you'll pick up the small undertone with whatever they say and learn to be cynical. so yes they forgot to inform me on the address for the N series presentation last night, when i called them this morning they said the event would be closing in 2 hrs. big deal, i thought it would be a chance for me to get oula reading those stupid clotting factors.
"ooooh, we forgot to give you the address" "i'm so sorry for bugging you guys, i know this event is really important, and you guys must have had a lot of OT for this, awesome products i see, everybody from nokia ALL over the world must have BEEN busy. an address is so easy to miss" *sacarsm* "yeah" "what's really gonna work is that you send me the nice photos for this great event and i'll see what i can do with them, why don't you call your colleagues at the office and they can send them right away, here's my email address so that you don't have to look it up again..." "ok" "awesome" (i think i make a better PR than you man, i'm practically teaching you what to do)
SSM for AMSC is approved today, i got shouted at 2x2 times in front of my face and 2x2 times on the phone. anyway, how did i get them to work? by over-apologizing. by apologizing, you cann shut people up, and it works, i can tell you that.
"I found out more about what happened to the name list, we had to change as the students were hesitating with whether taking AMSC as their SSM or not. We have the OC list fixed right from the start in March, but the actual people that were taking AMSC as SSM had been changing. Some need to wait for the overseas confirmation for example. So our mistake was that we did not follow the deadlines we set for the OCs ourselves, we were not firm enough in keeping that deadline. Our committee had an evaluation meeting yesterday, we will learn from this, and we are doing everything to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future. Again, we apologize here."
it makes the mean people feel better, if makes you feel better, why not?
"Please note that your application for self-initiated SSM has been approved. Please keep us informed of any changes in the "AMSA" programme."
