Sunday, January 08, 2006
to satisfy yourself with daily portions of gadget news, take my word and stay away from big commerical news sites in weekends, you will only be disappointed. good thing about forums and rumour sites is that they go live at this time of vacuum (void). most "hired" sites won't bother to update on sundays, cuz those "hired" people will work on their own fan sites (and forums).

the CES at las vagas this year hasn't given a lot of surprises.
- toshiba's gigabit S with ms portable media center in a small enough package and much battery life than ipod. 30Gb at 299, 60Gb at 399.
- a lot more HDD players from pioneer (remember olympus just quit??), samsung etc
- an AAA battery driven mp3 player from sandisk with color screen, too bad there's no native plugs
- more mp3 players from sandisk, they're gonna win philips this time for sure. (the protos for the end of this year are unimpressive i can tell you, philips is so inconsistent with their UI and syncing, when the HQ is still in the middle of development, the eu branch can give out so much wind as if it's gonna be on shelves anytime. geez. diseconomies of scale.)
- 20"+ screen for laptops from lgphilips
- big plasma displays from panasonic samsung/sony; big LCD display from sharp
- a lot more BT enabled stereo headphones and headsets from motorola, they're leader in this aspect can't deny it.
- motorola's rockr E2 with illuminated buttons on the sides (they look gorgeous), itunes gone, 100song limitation gone, t-flash moved back to SD cards (cheap memory!!). new UI, heavily hitachi inspired. a bit worried with the lagging
- sonyericsson's W810, in case you don't like the w800i design and still wanted to flush the k750i with w800i firmware and risk bridging warranty agreement, here's one for you. quad-band and edge support (hint hint cingular+ s.american release) camera cover is removed, but the lense is well embedded this time, dusts will be a problem but not scratches. watch out for the amount of internal memory, they've shrunk it to around 20Mb. the true k750i successor has leaked pics online, should be due in june (T610: March 4, 2003; K700i: March 9, 2004; K750i: March 1, 2005; and then?). oh the joystick's gone, i think i actually prefer the joystick, may be cuz i have smaller fingers.
- nothing special from nokia, a lot of new headsets, and BT added to entry level flipphones. expect to see a lot more qvga screen-ed s40 phones, after the screen sourcing signed with NEC
- samsung, not much out, just a few US EVDO phones, music/video broadcasting and some LG rip-off music shortcuts keys on top

most phones will be announced at 3gsm (feb, barcelona .sp), right before cebit (march hannover .de), and more US targted devices at CTIA (new orleans/atlanta moved to apr)
